Taking on bigger projects and hoping your manager smells you want to become a manager is not a strategy.

In this week’s video, I share the four things I’d do today if I was a senior engineer looking to move to management (like I did about 10 years ago).

One simple thing you can do is take this question to your manager:

What would you need to see from me before you’d feel comfortable putting me forward for a manager role?

But you need to be ready for the actual conversation after that.
